14 Jan NCH Healthcare to join Florida’s electronic medical records sharing system
NCH Healthcare System in Collier County is among four additional health care organizations selected to join Florida’s electronic medical records sharing system, the Health Information Exchange, state officials said this afternoon.
The exchange allows separate health entities to share medical records, test results and other relevant patient information, even though those organizations have different electronic medical record software systems. Provider access to patient records from the exchange requires patient consent.
Currently, 22 health organizations throughout Florida are participating in the exchange.
“We are pleased to continue to have more participants join the exchange and to see increased use of electronic health records throughout Florida,” said Liz Dudek, Secretary of the Agency for Health Care Administration, in a prepared comment. “Patients should ask their health care providers about electronic health records and whether they participate in health information exchange.”
