College Station’s MEMdata aims to save hospitals money

When the University of Florida Health Shands Children’s Hospital recently sought to expand its world-class neonatal intensive care unit, a College Station-born-and-bred business got the call to step up and help.

MEMdata, a technology manufacturing management firm, was founded in 2000 to focus on reducing capital equipment costs for medical facilities. It helps health centers with everything from interior design and space planning to equipment budgeting, but clients are flocking to them for their dedication to surveying free-market competition to get the best price on medical purchases.

 “Health care is not an efficient market,” said Bob Yancy, CEO of MEMdata. “Health care is a supply-chain, which is particularly characterized by extreme price variation for the exact same products.”
