13 Jul Central Florida can achieve nation’s healthiest weight
The state’s surgeon general, Dr. John A. Armstrong, has made his top health priority getting Florida on track as the state with the healthiest weight in the nation. This is very appropriate since the obesity epidemic has become an increasing burden in these United States.
As Floridians, we have an opportunity to set a new course. The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is prepared to help lead us to the healthiest weight through integrated state, county and community partnerships.
Recently, the American Medical Association designated obesity as a disease. Despite some opposition, I can tell you this designation should be helpful. Having the nation’s largest physician group make the declaration will focus more attention on obesity, and it could help improve reimbursement for obesity drugs, surgery and counseling.
