Clinic offering free health care for needy

A South Florida clinic is offering care for patients who cannot afford to see a doctor.

“I don’t have health insurance, and without this place, I wouldn’t have anywhere,” said Cicely Clary, a patient who visited UHI Community Care Clinic, which offers care without a cost.

The clinic along Northwest 183rd Street and 48th Avenue in Miami Gardens provides free health care services for the uninsured as well as low-income residents. Dr. Zafar Quareshi, the Medical Director of UHI Community, said, “We don’t ask for any insurance or anything. If they have insurance, they can go to their private physician. If they don’t have any insurance, they can come to our clinic. We will see them.”

The health care clinic opened its doors in 2008. From the basics, like routine checkups, immunizations, physicals and blood testing, they have it covered. Dr. Mohsin Jaffer, President of UHI said, “We used to only do¬† it part-time, but as things got better, we realized there was a tremendous need in the community.”
