30 Jul Pediatric nursing home raising money for trip back to Disney World
Two years ago, the staff at Exceptional Care for Children decided to take on one of its biggest challenges yet: to take a group of its pediatric nursing home patients on a trip to Disney World.
Four months of planning and $100,000 later, eight medically fragile kids and more than 30 nurses and other staff members embarked on the trip of a lifetime.
“It was nothing short of incredible,” said Maureen Langston, the center’s development director. “Most of the kids have spent their entire lives living in an acute-care hospital.”
The trip left the kids with lasting memories but also a burning question: When are we going back?
“We can’t hold them back anymore,” Langston said. “We can’t keep saying, ‘someday.’”
