In recognition of her success at building compromise on vital health care issues important to Florida seniors and the medically fragile, state Representative Katie Edwards (D-Plantation) was presented today with the “Champion for the Elderly Award” from the Florida Health Care Association.

The Florida Health Care Association is Florida’s largest advocacy organization for long term care providers and the elderly they serve. The association presented the award to Representative Edwards during an annual meeting attended by more than 300 of the health care industry’s top figures in the state.

During the 2013 legislative session, Representative Edwards, who served on the House Health & Human Services Committee, took a leading role in helping to build consensus around legislation pertaining to Florida’s certificate of need process for skilled nursing facilities.
