07 Sep Gov. Scott presents service medals to Pasco veterans
Like many people of his generation, 91-year-old Frank Lutisan stepped forward to do his part after the U.S. entered World War II in the 1940s.
Following the recommendation of friends, he chose the Navy and soon found himself aboard a ship in the South Pacific.
Or as he puts it, “right in the middle of the action.”
One day the Japanese began shelling his ship and Lutisan’s name was added to the casualty list.
“I got hit in the shoulder,” said Lutisan, a resident of the Baldomero Lopez State Veterans’ Nursing Home.
Although Lutisan’s Navy days ended nearly seven decades ago, the state of Florida hasn’t forgotten.
Gov. Rick Scott visited the nursing home Thursday to present the Governor’s Veterans Service Award to all 120 residents, calling them heroes who “made countless sacrifices for Florida families.”
