The recent story about the challenges facing nursing education in Florida missed the real issue: How can the state find enough qualified health care professionals?
The state’s top economist reported last fall that Florida would need more than 220,000 new health care workers by 2030. The Florida Center for Nursing employer survey forecasts a shortage of 11,000 nurses by 2015. Even today, there are thousands of vacancies for licensed practical nurses and certified nursing assistants.
