Lee Memorial Health: Team up to quit smoking

As health care professionals, we see the effects of smoking every day and night. Since Nov. 19, 2009, Lee Memorial Health System has been tobacco-free, meaning that all forms of tobacco, including cigarettes and smokeless tobacco, are prohibited on system properties—both owned and leased. Prior to and since then we have helped many employees and family members stop smoking. Unfortunately our community continues to have an adult smoking rate of nearly 20 percent.

This year, during the 6th annual Tobacco Free Florida Week, which runs April 21-27, the Florida Department of Health is teaming up with health professionals to help smokers quit for good. Dr. John Armstrong, Florida state surgeon general and secretary of health, is calling on the health care community to work with patients to help them successfully quit.
