When Chuck Gehring’s mother fell and dislocated a shoulder seven years ago, the doctor who treated her noticed she had mental confusion, which he attributed to early-stage Alzheimer’s disease.
With Gehring’s father already facing memory challenges, Chuck and his wife, Kris, started researching long-term-care facilities in central Ohio.
Two years later, they made the difficult decision to move his parents out of their West Side home. By that time, they had visited more than 20 centers — so they were prepared.
