Diabetes: More than a problem with sweets

As of 2010, approximately 285 million people worldwide had diabetes. And it is projected by 2030, this number will double.

When many people think of Type 2 diabetes, they think of eating too many sweets. While this can contribute to the development of diabetes, it is not the sole cause. When we say diabetes, what we really mean is our body’s pancreas is not producing enough or any of a hormone called insulin that converts the sugar in our body to energy, and/or our body does not use this insulin properly.
