19 Jan Extreme cold warrants special care for elderly, those in need
With Wednesday’s low temperature projected to fall to zero and wind chills reaching dangerous sub-zero levels, community care agencies are stepping up efforts to assist those in need of special help.
The Salvation Army will maintain a warming center for people needing refuge from the cold at its headquarters, 1320 S.E. 6th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays during the winter months. A free hot meal will be offered at the center from 4-5 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays during that time. There is no income criteria or signup required.
