Italy, Germany offer glimpse into elder care in grayer U.S., survey shows

A new survey on aging in Germany, Italy and the United States found that families in all three countries are likely to shoulder the burden of care for aging relatives, despite strikingly different attitudes about how large of a role government should have in providing assistance.

The survey — released Thursday by the Pew Research Center — also found that in all three nations, financial support tends to flow downward in generations where people are sandwiched between aging parents and adult children.
